Lockwood 201 Master pin / chip
Housed within the cylinder, the top pin / chip spring sits above the top pin / chip , which in turn sits above the bottom pin / chip . The top pin / chip spring drives the pins / chips into the barrel / plug and when no key is present prevents the shear line being formed between the top pins / chips and bottom pins / chips which would allow the barrel / plu to rotate within the cylinder and thereby lock or unlock the Rim cylinder.
When the key is engaged in the barrel / plug the bottom pins / chips sit within the bitting of the key pushing up against the top pins / chips and top pin / chip springs to create a shear line between the two sets of pins / chips , allowing the key to rotate the barrel / plug within the ctlinder and thereby lock or unlock the Rim cylinder.
A second shear line can be created with the use of the master pins / chips . Similar to the bottom pin / chip , the master pin / chip allow the creation of master keying systems to operate the lock.
Master pins / chips range in size from 0 to 9 allowing the master and servant keys bitting code to be matched within the cylinder.
